metcalf95.gif is the original GIF from the new
AI lab photo technique. I made the image
referenced in my home page by loading it into xv, cropping to 360x480
starting at 0,84, and then shrinking it by one-half and setting the gamma
to 1.4. Then I ran it through ppmquant -fs to reduce it to 64 colors,
but I had to do a little hand-editing with xpaint to get rid of some
bright artifacts (not too hard). I tried interlacing it with giftool,
but it didn't look as good (!).
metcalf90.gif retrieved from
/ai/com/mugshots/mug/metcalf, via xmug to xwd, then piped through
xwdtopnm|ppmtogif. The image
referenced in my home page was generated by cropping it, halving
the size, and doing a 5x5 blur.
